Abstract: The role of Helicobacter pylori (H.pylori) in the pathogenesis of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is controversial. Epidemiological studies revealed a negative correlation between H.pylori infection and the incidence of GERD. Some studies suggested that H.pylori infection was associated with the incidence and severity of erosive esophagitis. Most of the studies showed no association between H.pylori infection and the incidence and severity of GERD  when the risk factors of GERD excluded. H.pylori infection should be treated in the patients with GERD before longterm use of proton pump inhibitor.
