Determination of procalcitonin and clinical value

Abstract

Abstract: Procalcitonin（PCT） is useful in the rapid detection and monitoring of bacterial infection. Serial evaluations of this protein seem to be more accurate in the diagnostic phase. PCT can provide information not only about the course of bacterial infection but also useful to predict outcome and response to antibacterial treatment. On the other hand， some issues have yet to be solved and PCT is preferably in combination with other clinical or laboratory tests， and this might be of help in finding early bacterial infections.
