Indications for statins in primary prevention of cardiovascular disease

Abstract: At present,  cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the main cause of human disability and death. How to effectively prevent and control CVD has become the most important thing in the medical field of disease prevention and control. A large number of evidencebased medicine evidences have proved that statins play an important role in the prevention and control of CVD. Statins can not only effectively reduce the mortality and morbidity of patients with coronary heart disease,  but also have a significant effect on the primary prevention of high risk people who have not yet had cardiovascular disease. High risk groups for primary prevention include patients with hypertension,  diabetes and most elderly patients. This review will discuss the necessity and indications of statins as primary prevention in different populations.
